Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:The EAP is provided by the State of California and is part of the Statewide Engagement Program which is designed to enhance the state’s ability to holistically support the state’s workforce.

The EAP offers State of California employees and their eligible dependents free, confidential resources and services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. It provides a full range of services, including short-term counseling, work-life services, financial wellbeing coaching, legal assistance, identity theft resolution, wellbeing coaching, manager support, health and wellbeing resources, and employee discounts. 

Services
  • Counseling Services

The EAP provides in-person and virtual therapy options in a convenient, confidential, safe, and non-judgmental environment. Services are provided through a national network of licensed professionals who are trained to help with many challenges, including stress, anxiety, grief, marital/family relationship concerns, parenting, substance misuse and more. The EAP also provides access to virtual therapy through BetterHelp, which is the largest online counseling service that provides an alternative to traditional, inperson counseling. Counseling services can provide support, education, guidance and resources to learn and practice new coping methods to help improve mental health and wellbeing. 

  • Discounts

The EAP provides access to a member-only online discount center and mobile app, LifeMart that offers discounts on nationally recognized brand-name products and services and local retailers. It provides employees with access to savings on daytoday essentials like groceries, insurance, and childcare, as well as other purchases like travel, entertainment, electronics, cars, vacations, and more. 

  • Financial Wellness Services

The EAP provides access to financial tools, resources and services as well as access to Money Coaches through My Secure Advantage (MSA). The Financial Wellbeing services can help individuals become more confident about their finances and increase their financial literacy. Money Coaches provide confidential, unbiased guidance and support to learn strategies on how to build a budget, avoid or reduce debt, estate planning, save for buying a home or retirement, as well as other financial concerns. Services also include access to online tools, services and resources such as financial wellbeing webinars, articles, tax preparation assistance, and numerous financial calculators. 

  • Identify Theft Services

The EAP provides access to Fraud Resolution Specialists who answer questions, educate on how to prevent identity theft and provide guidance to help restore an individual’s credit if an issue occurs. 

  • Legal

The EAP offers legal consultation services to help navigate a broad array of legal concerns such as estate planning, family law, civil and consumer rights, taxes and audits, personal property, and document preparation to provide you with information and resources to organize your affairs. 

  • Manager Support

The EAP provides access to Manager Support Consultants who can provide confidential consultations, guidance, and various resources to help support managers and supervisors address a variety of workplace issues and concerns. 

  • Resources

The EAP provides access to hotlines, websites, support groups and self-care applications that individuals can use to get help, guidance, and support. 

  • Webinars and Workshops

The EAP offers live and on-demand webinars and workshops presented by subject matter experts on a variety of topics, including fostering resilience, mental health first aid, how to live a happier life, and more. 

  • Wellbeing Coaching

The EAP provides access to Wellbeing Coaches, who are certified experts who can provide confidential, unbiased support and resources to help individuals reach their personal and professional goals. 

  • Work-Life Support Services

The EAP provides access to a network of Work-life specialists who can offer expert guidance, information, and personalized referrals to help with a myriad of life events such as finding child or elder care, parenting, pet ownership, moving, planning for college, money management, home improvement projects, or other important events in an individual’s life. Work-life support also offers webinars, live talks, audio, articles and guides that offer insights and strategies about key life events and day-to-day challenges. 

 

Eligibility

All State of California employees who are employed by a department that participates in the statewide agreement and who are appointed permanent full-time or part time and their eligible dependents are eligible for EAP services. Seasonal employees and retired annuitants are eligible for EAP services during employment. Departments that do not participate in the statewide agreement must establish their own EAP program for their employees.
