MetLife Pet Insurance is a voluntary benefit that offers customizable plans to help protect your furry friends from unexpected veterinary expenses, including coverage for accidents, illnesses and routine care, allowing you to choose the plan that best fits your pet’s needs. You can enroll or modify your pet insurance coverage at any time, not just during Open Enrollment.

With MetLife Pet Insurance, you can count on:
- The freedom to visit any U.S. veterinarian. Exam fees are covered for accidents and illnesses.
- Flexible plans with no breed exclusions.
- Optional preventive care coverage for dogs and cats to help with routine wellness expenses.
- Multi-pet savings – 5% for the second policy and 10% for each additional policy.
- Family Plans – One policy and a shared deductible for up to three dogs and cats.
- Additional discounts and savings may be available on pet care and other services.
- Other plan benefits may be available, including 24/7 virtual veterinary services, loss or theft coverage and mortality benefits.
Eligibility
All active state employees and retirees are eligible to enroll in pet insurance, including employees appointed to:
- Permanent positions
- Permanent-intermittent (PI) positions
- Limited-term (LT) positions
Enrollment
You can enroll your pet in pet insurance in three simple steps. Visit the MetLife Pet Insurance website and:
- Provide your zip code.
- Describe your pet including species, gender, age and breed.
- Choose your plan option. Options include annual limit, deductible, reimbursement and preventive care coverage for cats and dogs (optional).
Premiums
You will be billed directly for your pet insurance premiums. Premiums cannot be deducted from your paycheck. You can set up payment options via credit card or automatic bank withdrawal directly with MetLife.
Your quote will be personalized directly from MetLife. Premiums are based on factors such as your pet’s species, age, breed and the coverage option you select. You can receive a personalized quote directly from MetLife online.
